FAQs

Questions, answered.

Do you have more things to clarify? Feel free to contact us; our team is happy to help.

01What do I need to do before the scan?

No metal, please! The MRI scanner uses a strong magnetic field to produce the images. Wear comfortable clothing without metal zippers, hooks, buttons or buckles. All metallic objects must be left outside the MRI room, and a gown will be provided. Please arrive 30 minutes early to complete medical questionnaires.

02What if I have metal implants?

You must inform the radiographer if you have any of the following:

  • Implanted defibrillator or pacemaker
  • Cochlear (ear) implant / implanted hearing aids
  • Metallic surgical clips, such as those used on brain aneurysms
  • Artificial heart valves
  • Implanted drug infusion ports
  • Artificial limb or metallic joints
  • Implanted nerve stimulators
  • Pins, screws, plates, stents or surgical staples
  • Intra-uterine contraceptive device
  • Blood glucose monitoring patch / device
03What happens after the scan?

You may leave immediately after the scan or wait for a copy of the images. A radiologist specialising in musculoskeletal imaging will examine the images and deliver a report to your doctor, who will advise you on the results and the appropriate treatment. You will receive the images and a copy of the report to keep.

04Can I use insurance for my scan?

We understand that cost may be a concern, so we accept reimbursement from these insurers. Please speak to our staff if you have any questions.

05How long does an MRI scan take?

Most scans take 20–30 minutes as you lie comfortably, while more complex scans may take up to an hour. For some conditions, a safe contrast dye may be injected to enhance visibility; a physician is always available.
